What Will Keep Us Away From Using iPhone4 In Nepal?

Yesterday (07.06.2010) Apple, announced iPhone4 and iOS 4 eliminating Phone from its OS name as now its not just limited to iPhone but iPad and iPod too.

Many people in Nepal are using unlocked version of iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS as our carrier are not so interested in introducing legal iPhone in the country so far. So, people using iPhone have to use unlocked version of the iPhone and which keeps us away from updating its OS directly from iTunes but instead wait until we get a way to unlock it after getting our hands on Jailbreak software is released with every OS update and it’s not an easy job to unlock the phone after jailbreaking it because we always have a fear of baseband change which leads to keep the iPhone locked for the rest of the life and we can use it only as an iPod :) .

So, now another part will be limiting us to use iPhone4 in Nepal and that would be the “MicroSIM”. Apple now has introduced MicroSIM slot in new iPhone4 device. So there is no point of buying it to use it in Nepal and don’t seem chances that NT (Nepal Telecomm) or Ncell (formerly MeroMobile) will be introducing MicroSIM to its customers just for the sake to let us use iPhone4 :) .

But, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users can enjoy the new features of iOS 4 in their phone by jailbreaking it (once its online).

So, if you are Apple fan and want to buy iPhone4, please go though the specifications carefully before you invest your huge loads of saving in buying one.

The microsim may not be a big problem. You can easily turn a minisim to micro using scissors. Search on google about converting to microsim and you will get lots of sites providing the easy tip.

but can any one teach me how to jailbreak the iphone 4 with IOS.4.1

  3. nepaligeek says:

@ santos in order to jailbreak you iphone 4 iOS 4.1 you need to download greenpois0n from the http://www.greenpois0n.com then just follow the simple instruction, but in order to use it in nepal or any other carriers than AT&T you need to unlock it. For that until now, there is no unlock yet, but you can unlock if you have old baseband.

Hello Eka Raj, if you are planning to buy an iPad 2 that’s a good thing, cause you can easily use it here in Nepal. 3G is not limited to Kathmandu only, if you are planning to buy 3G+Wi-Fi version of the iPad2 then you can use Ncell’s sim card and use 3G, EDGE and GRPS everywhere in Nepal as well as NTC’s 3G and GPRS by just cutting the normal sim to micro sim with sim cutter which are available in most of the mobile shops in kathmandu.
Hope this information gives you the answers for your question. :)

    • iklash says:

Hello Asim, I hope I am not so late in replying for your question, you can cut your normal sim in Newroad area Mobile shops the best one I can suggest you is CTV, Tamrakar House and I think they will unlock it too, after unlocking there won’t be any problem using your iPhone with any carrier here (NTC, NCell)

Hi everyone, I am a visitor in Nepal and two days ago I lost my i-phone in a taxi in Kathmandu. What is the chance that it can be trace and I can have it back? I have my data and lots of important memories of my belated son in there (pictures especially) so I am really hoping I can find this phone back. Thank you…

    • iklash says:

Losing mobile phone and getting it back is really hard, but if you have “Find my iPhone” app installed in your mobile you can erase the data or lock the phone via https://me.com/find/ link with your iTunes account info and you can even send msg to the phone and may be you can offer some cash in return for your iPhone
