Recently I visited of the the Apple Retail Store here in Kathmandu (I don’t want to disclose the name of that retailer), I was there to ask if they have got any External Harddrive and their answer was “No, we don’t sell hard drives”. Well that’s okay. So, as I was there I thought asking if they have got iPhone 4 and the prompt reply was “Yes, we do that iPhone 4″ (with a exciting face). I had no idea why that lady was so excited about when I asked her about the iPhone 4. But once I asked the price on how much damage it was going to make on my savings and the reply from that lady was “It would cost you 88,000.00 NRP for 16GB”. I was totally shocked to hear the price from her and then I realized why she was so excited before when she told me that they have got iPhone 4 
(may be she thought I was going to buy it without any single thought on it).
So, I was speechless there and didn’t even bothered to ask her why the price was so high, cause I think I know the answer already. So, I just turned around and left the shop. After getting home I directly went to Apple Singapore website and checked the price for the same iPhone 4 16GB and the price listed at the moment is S$ 888.00 which will make 49,093.59 NPR if we convert it. But, I also understand that the price in Nepali market will not be same as the converted price but little more than that and I totally agree with it, so how much it should have been in here??? Even if the retailers add 5,000.00 – 7,000.00 NRP extra to it it will be fine cause of tax and all, but 88,000.00 NRP?? How do they tag the price?? I really wonder about it, or do they add the price of 5MP camera and HD video camera’s price to it also? (just my thought), cause no way it will cost 88.000.00 NRP. So, I think iPhone prices are way to high for the nepali market, what do you think??

UPDATE: Now the iPhone price has been lowered down from 65k to 70k in different stores.

88ks is just way too high… may be they are charging for the free bumpers aswell haha

@santos: we can use micro sim cutter to cut down the normal sim to micro sim and can be used without any problem in iPhone 4

iphone 4 is too costly in nepal … not because they add other extra values but coz its rare and … only few shops have autority to sell it … if more shops r allowed then the price should not cost us more … and the price 88 is too much u will get almost 50% less if u even ask people to bring it for u from foreign country … i guess i better to do that … or why go far get it from India … its cheap there

@iklash certainly yeah.. you can buy a micro sim cutter or you can cut it by yourself to make the mini sim into micro sim, i suggest you to download a micro sim template first and then cut it if you are doing manually..

I do not think this price is literally high in Nepali market.Normal daily alimentations and basic household things r like ..uffff..uffff…wtchiken huna aucha vane,, Iphone 4 is treated as *imported-High-Lebaled-Goods*that means the price in Nepal is obviously high.

Custums* Taxes to *HLG*= equals to price of the phone or may be half of the price of Iphn 4= $ 372
Now lets add all expenses: $(744+60+372)= $ 1,176(us dollor)
Lets put only 10% profit margin of the total cost(for Business person) =$117.6

Now when you want to buy Iphone 4 in Nepal then u sud aprroximately pay = $(1,176+117.6) = $1,293.6

Guys, Iphone4 will cost around 600$ USD without contract for 16GB / 700$ for 32GB, and it can be unlocked with some softwares to work with any SIM in World. if you buy from UK, Canada, Austrila they are already Factory Unlocked.

I also have sim adapters that you can combine with the micro sim, so that you can use the sim with other regular cell phones. However, the iphones are in locked state and need to be unlocked. The firmware is 4.1 and the baseband is 02.10.04
The software unlock will be made available free on the internet over the coming days. The tentative release date for the unlock is 16 Jan 2011.

you can use your iphone 4 in Nepal and micro-sim won’t be a hassle anymore, you can visit mobile stores and they will cut the regular sim (NTC/NCELL) to micro-sim with sim cutter and you can enjoy your iphone with any carrier of your choice.

well, basically the retailers here have built this assumption that if you’re going to buy an Apple, money isn’t an issue with you. It’s the unjustified “branding” they do to their customers thinking they all have so much money to spare.
I do agree that the brand costs money.
