LG‘s upcoming OLED TV panel measures 55 inches and comes with a contrast ratio of over 100,000:1, the company has announced.

The panel is also just 5 mm thin and has a color gamut that is “wider” than that produced by LCD panels. All of these characteristics make it a candidate for bringing OLED TV technology to the masses in a market that’s still dominated by LCDs.

“Although OLED technology is seen as the future of TV display, the technology has been limited to smaller display sizes and by high costs, until now. LG Display’s 55-inch OLED TV panel has overcome these barriers,” said Sang Beom Han, CEO and Executive Vice President of LG Display.

Of course, we’ll hear more of this panel at the next CES, along with those WiDi-supporting CINEMA 3D Smart TVs LG has announced earlier this month.

Even the British occasionally have to change with the times. Following a study stating that 80 percent of all web video is now compatible with HTML5, the BBC has formally adopted the standard for videos on the desktop and mobile versions of its website. The full roll-out across BBC.com follows a pilot program in which the broadcaster tested HTML5 on the the Health section of the site. According to Electronista, the BBC has been working with HTML5 delivery systems throughout 2011 to build its iPlayer apps for the iOS. In other news, the BBC has just texted Flash and said it’s totally open to staying friends and meeting up for coffee sometime.

Harry Potter has once again cast a spell over the international box-office.

The boy wizard’s final film adventure, Harry Potter an the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, has raked in $126million (£78million) in takings since it opened in dozens of countries on Wednesday.

It has broken the record for midnight screenings in the U.S. and Canada with $43.5million (£27million) – setting the stage for a massive weekend debut.

As initial reports suggest that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has taken a record $80million at the box-office in one day, here are the five biggest single days at the box-office:

The Twilight Saga: New Moon – $72,703,754

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse – $68,533,840

The Dark Knight – $67,165,092

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – $62,016,476

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 – $61,684,550

Initial reports on Friday’s North American takings suggested it had made a further $40million (£25million), thereby passing the $80million (£50million) barrier and making it the most profitable day in Hollywood history.

Outside the U.S., the sequel has sold $82.5million (£51million) in tickets since Wednesday, when it opened in dozens of countries, distributor Warner Bros said on Friday.

It has already broken records in Australia, Italy and Sweden and France for having the biggest opening day in history.

Box office analysts now predict that U.S. and Canadian ticket sales for the three-day weekend will hit $125million to $150million (£77million to £93million), but with the midnight record that range could be low.

Even if the box office total hits that forecast, it would be the highest-grossing Harry Potter debut and put the movie within striking distance of the biggest opening weekend ever.

That record belongs to the 2008 Batman movie The Dark Knight, which collected $158.4million (£98.2million) in its initial three-days. Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is the eighth and final film in the Harry Potter franchise and the first in 3D.

The earlier films have generated more than $6.4billion (£4billion) in ticket sales since the first movie a decade ago, plus billions more from DVDs and merchandise. The films are based on novels by British author J.K. Rowling.

The record-holder for any of the eight Potter films so far is the first in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which has amassed $974.8million (£604.8million) globally.

Loyal fans eager to say farewell are expected to drive big numbers for the conclusion of the battle between good and evil in a fantasy world of witchcraft.

Film-goers, some sporting Potter-inspired costumes, queued at cinemas for the first showings and events coordinated with screenings.

Many early screenings were sold out before the movie had even opened.

Aamir Khan’s Production &Delhi Belly& has been taken out the cinema halls in Kathmandu yesterday by the censor board. The movie has few inappropriate words which led the movie to be taken off from the theater yesterday.

The censor board recently found that the movie has some inappropriate language used and warned the theatre owners to pull down the movie from showing. But if the theatre owners didn’t pull it off so the police has seized the movie reels and have suggested that if some of the bad languages will be removed from the reel then they might allow them to run the movie again in the theatre.

If the theatre will continue to show the movie without giving any priorities to the warning from the censor board and the police then the theatre owner might have to pay either NRs. 10,000.00 or jailed for a year. The movie was released in Kathmandu and Pokhara Valley.
